The Scholarship is open to graduating High School Seniors (between the ages of 16-18) who reside in the Mobile County area.  The Scholarship is for no less than (1) year and no more than (4) years.  Scholarships will be awarded to students who exhibit academic ability (<2.2 or > 2.8 grade point average), students who exhibit leadership skills and abilities and students who are involved in extracurricular activities in his/her school and community.  Students may be nominated by their high school counselors, principals or teachers.

 

All students applying are required to write a 500 word essay on the following topic:

 

Why is education important to success and

                                         What will education mean to my professional career?

 

The Russell Scholarship Fund will award a designated amount for the candidate (sent to the University/College of their choice) that is selected each year for 4 years (candidate (s) must reapply each year). 

 

The candidate (s) must meet the following criteria each year:

           

·         Parents must be permanent residents of Mobile County

 

·         Parent’s annual income must not exceed $25,000  

 

·         grade point average <2.2 or >2.8

 

·         Attend a college or university of their choice for 4 consecutive years

 

·         A copy of his/her transcript is sent by the University to the Scholarship Fund for review each year

 

·         A statement from the college or university confirming their enrollment.

 

·         A verification of parents income and W-2 forms

Note:

This application must be received by April 1st.  There will be no exceptions.  If you are the recipient of this scholarship a letter of acceptance from your educational institution will be required before funds are disbursed.

 

The scholarship fund amount will be sent directly to your institution of choice.
